Liberty Wins Arizona 6A Baseball Championship

Liberty High won their third Arizona High School Baseball Champion since 2010 with a 10–0 shut out of Alhambra in the 6A Title game. The Liberty won the 4AII title in 2010 and the 5A championship in 2018.
Both teams had long winning streaks entering the championship game; Alhambra at 15 and Liberty with 18. Alhambra held off Hamilton 3–2 in the Semifinals and Liberty beat Sandra Day O’Connor 9–3 at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa home of the Oakland A’s in the spring. The championship was played at Tempe Diablo Stadium home to the Los Angeles Angels.
The title game was scoreless in the first two innings. The Liberty bats came alive in the bottom of the third; scoring 4 runs highlighted by a 2 run single from senior Carson Baker. Senior Kaden Schiefelbien pitched three and a third innings; striking out 3 for his 7th victory of the season. Sophomore Traig Oughton finished the last one and two thirds innings keeping Alhambra batters hitless and no base runners.
Liberty added a run in the fourth and exploded with 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth ending the game under the mercy rule. Liberty pounded out 14 hits in the game. Carson Baker, Kolby Felix, Daniel Osborn, Andrew Biddle, and Braden Lovett all had 2 hits each in the game. Baker had 3 RBI and ended the game with a 2 run double. Osborn and Felix both had 2 runs batted in.
Alhambra finished the season at 23–3 overall and won the Metro Section with a 10–0 record. Liberty was 21–3 overall and 9–3 in the Desert Valley Section. The 6A champions are ranked #1 in Arizona and in the 10 nationally.
