For the second season in a row; Jesuit High (Tampa) defeated Jefferson 10–3 for a Florida district title. Last year was cut short due to covid-19 when the Tigers were 9–0. Both schools played in the 6A District 8 in 2019 with Jesuit beating Jefferson 3–2 in the title game. The Tigers went on to win the Florida 6A championship; defeating Dunedin 4–3. This season both schools moved into the 5A District 7 division with the same result.
The Tigers scored a run in every inning of this years title game; adding an extra in the 2nd and 5th. Then 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Jefferson scored their 3 in the top of the second and briefly held a 3–1 advantage before Jesuit tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Senior Cole Russo was the star of the for the Tigers going 2 for 2 with a 3 run homer and 4 RBI. Sophomore Wes Mendes went 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored, a home run, and 2 RBI. Senior Kris Sosnowski pitched the last four and two thirds innings for the Tigers for his 7th win of the season without a loss. Sosnowski struck out 8 and only gave up 1 hit.
Jesuit improved to 25–2 overall and swept the 5A District 7 will going 5–0. The Tigers will host Brandon High 14–13 in the opening round of the Florida State Championships on Thursday starting at 7pm. Brandon lost to Auburndale 6–1 in the 5A District 8 title game; but have won 5 of their last 6 games.
